Black screen camera for iPhone
Record video with a black screen on iPhone.
Create a screen-off look without locking your iPhone. A black or custom cover replaces the bright camera preview, and video records with no added sound.

The screen-off look
BlackOut keeps the iPhone unlocked and displays a fully black cover while recording in the foreground. Show no controls at all, or selectively enable the timer, recording indicator, stop button, or live preview.

Answers about recording, storage, supported devices, capture sounds, permissions, and Premium.
Yes. With Premium, BlackOut records video while showing a black cover instead of the usual live camera preview. The app must stay open in the foreground while recording.
Yes. With Premium, you can use a custom image as the full-screen cover while recording video instead of plain black. The image is stored locally on your device and can be replaced or removed in Settings at any time.
BlackOut is currently available only for iPhone on iOS. An Android version is not available at this time.
Keep your iPhone in Silent Mode for the quietest experience. Video recording does not play a capture sound, and BlackOut does not add start or stop sounds. Photo capture may still make a shutter sound depending on your device and region.
BlackOut cannot record after the iPhone is locked. It creates a screen-off look by displaying a fully black cover while the app remains open and active in the foreground.
Very. The display shows only your black or custom cover — no bright preview and no glowing controls — and BlackOut adds no start, stop, or shutter sounds to video. Recording runs while the app is open in the foreground, and the standard iOS camera indicator stays on.
No. BlackOut is a camera app: it records what the front or rear lens sees, not what is shown on your display. If you want to capture app footage or a video playing on your iPhone, use the built-in iOS Screen Recording control instead.
Usually, yes, and often noticeably. The display is one of the largest power draws on an iPhone, and OLED screens use almost no power to show true black. Replacing a bright full-screen live preview with a black cover extends how long you can record on a charge, and leaving optional on-screen elements disabled helps further.
Yes, with Premium. You can select supported front or rear cameras, adjust zoom and lens options, and set resolution and frame rate. Free photo capture uses the main rear camera.
Captured media stays in BlackOut's local gallery by default. Nothing is uploaded automatically, and media appears in Photos only when you choose to save it there.
Photo capture with the main rear camera and access to the basic local gallery are free. Video recording and advanced capture controls require Premium.
Premium is a one-time purchase that unlocks video recording, supported quality and camera options, zoom and lens controls, custom covers, optional on-screen recording elements, and biometric gallery protection.
